Her heart pounded in her chest and she felt the beginning sting of tears in her eyes. She grabbed her chest and yelled, “How could you!? I loved you!”
He opened his mouth to say something, anything, but nothing came out. His throat constricted and he felt the corners of his mouth turn down in a frown. He didn’t like to see her hurt like this. It disturbed him to see someone have such passionate emotion. One of the reasons he had fallen in love with her in the first place. It disturbed him to fascination. But this was necessary; it’s what he had been telling himself since day one.
It was necessary right?
Her blue eyes glittered with tears that had yet to spill down her cheeks. She bit her lip and made a single choking sound. What she said next would be ingrained in his mind forever. He would relive it everyday for as long as he lived, he truly believed it was the most heart-wrenching gut-twisting feeling he had ever experienced.
“I hate you.”
His eyes went wide and he lost focus for a moment, he wanted to throw up. She had said it so quietly, so vehemently that it burned him. Scorched his eyes to see her lips form the words. Blasted at his ears until he could hear nothing else. He reached out a hand to her, although he wasn’t even aware of it.
“No!” She screeched. “Get away from me! I hate you, I hate you, I hate you!” She said it as if it made it easier to forget him. “We are no longer friends…Get out…I never want to see your face again!”
She sobbed freely now, the tears finally pouring down her face in rivers. She sunk to the floor and crushed both hands to her chest, as if it physically pained her to say the words. She didn’t bother to hide the horrendous choking sobs coming from deep within her chest. They erupted from her throat in screams that echoed through his mind, constant revolutions of ‘I hate you’ ‘I hate you’ ‘No longer friends’.
He wanted to cry, he really did. But this was absolutely necessary to keep her safe, it was needed, he knew it would keep her out of harms way…
Even if it shattered the both of them to go through with it.
